  • On 30th September 2014, within the framework of the project “Better compliance with technical requirements” which was funded by the European Union (EU), the Leather and Shoes Research Institute (LSI) in cooperation with its partners including the University of Northampton, United Kingdom and the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (LEFASO) organises the Project Launching Workshop.




                The purpose of this workshop is to introduce purposes and activities of this project widely to enterprises in the footwear sector, relevant departments/organisations and project beneficiaries. The project objective is to improve the capacity in compliance with the export market requirements for Vietnam SMEs of footwear industry, and then advisory and testing services built up at an affordable cost for SMEs with international quality, accredited by reputable service providers; enhancing the advisory capacity of central and local professional Institutions on TBT issues in order to assist Vietnam Government in FTAs negotiation, particularly those of EU Vietnam FTA in the coming time.




                The participants of workshop include the representatives of agencies/departments of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), EU – MUTRAP Project Management Unit (PMU), project partners, the professional relevant organizations, the leather and footwear enterprises over the country, experts in the sector and journalists.


                During the discussion, the enterprises shared difficulties and challenges in compliance with the strict requirements and rules by the European market. Nowadays, businesses especially the small to medium size enterprises have to face a lot of difficulties such as being lacks of information and understanding about the regulations, legal requirements and private standards in the EU market, and testing results and certificates in Vietnam has not been recognised and accepted by the international buyers…


                In his presentation, Dr. Nguyen Van Thong (Director of the Textile and Garment Research Institute has emphasized the need to set up a focal point, providing and updating the requirements of the main importing markets to support the enterprises.


                 At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Hai Trung – Director of Leather and Shoes Research Institute (Project Director) confirmed his willing to complete this project successfully.
